T: Who are they ?
Ss: Daming and Simon.
T: Are they in China?
Ss: No. They are in New York.
T: Yes. They are in the street of New York.
T: And this is Laura, Simon’s friend.
Laura is very happy to meet Daming. She says: Pleased to meet you. if you are Daming, how to say?
Ss: Pleased to meet you, too!
T: Now read after me. Pleased to meet you.
Ss: Pleased to meet you.

Where is Laura from? Can Daming be Laura’s pen friend? Let’s watch the video.
Watch the video with the two questions.
T: Where is Laura from?
Ss: Laura is from England.
T: Right. And where is Simon from?
Ss: He’s from America.
T: And Daming is from?
Ss: China.
T: Can Daming be Laura’s Chinese pen friend?
Ss: Yes, of course / he can.
T: Good job. Pay attention to “of (the pronunciation) course”—of course.
3. Read the dialogue and answer the questions.
Can Daming speak English?
Can Laura write to Daming’s friends?
Can Daming’s friends be Laura’s pen friends?
T: Read the dialogue silently and underline the answers.
Then talk about the answers in groups.
4. Answer the questions and teach the sentences: I can speak some English. Can you be my Chinese pen friend?
① Teach: Can you speak English? I can speak some English.
T: Look at the first question: Can Daming speak English?
S: Yes, he can speak some English.
T: Daming can speak some English. Can you speak English?
S: Yes, I can speak some English.
T: Show another picture, help Ss understand the meanings.
Ask and answer in pairs. (Teacher writes the sentences on the blackboard.)
② Teach: Can you be my Chinese pen friend ? This is my address in China.
T: The second question: Can Laura write to Daming’s friends?
S: Yes , of course she can.

S: They want a pen friend from the US.
③ Teach the word: pen friend
T: The last question.
