Yesterday my friends invited me to a costume party. I dressed up like Snow White. I sang and danced with my friends at the party. I enjoyed myself at first. But then I didn’t hold my cup of coffee carefully. It dropped on the floor. The coffee splashed on my dress. I was so embarrassed, and my face turned red.
Can you guess the meaning of costume party and embarrassed?
April Fool’s Day!
The origin of April Fool’s Day is uncertain. Some people say that it has to do with the Roman festival of Hilaria that was held in March. Others say that it was started by Geoffrey Chaucer who mentioned such a day in his book Canterbury Tales when the cook was tricked by a fox. Regardless of its origin, many Western countries observe (celebrate) this day. The popularity of April Fool’s Day has slowly been spreading to the Asia Pacific.
