教材分析
本课教材为外研社《英语》(新标准)(三年级起点)六年级上册Module 1 Unit 2 It’s in the west.本单元的话题是描述城市的方位。本单元的课文情境是Simon借助一张美国地图告诉Daming美国主要几个城市的方位,Daming和Simon互相评价对方的国家是大国。主要是通过谈论美国的城市信息,来带领学生整理和归纳表达城市方位方面的语句,课文简短,易于学生学习和理解。本单元共1课时完成。

学情分析
学生在一单元学习基础上,已经掌握了描述一座城市或景点的基本语句,如城市人口等信息。本单元是在一单元的基础上,对城市在一个国家内的方位进行描述,学生在四年级开始就接触四个方位词,对于本课的语言点学生不会感到陌生,也不存在表达方面的困难,而且,学生对于异国文化有着浓厚的兴趣,详细,在教师的良好教学组织下,学生能够高效完成本课的学习任务。

⑴ 全体学生能够初步运用语句Where is…? It’s in the… of … 谈论一个景点或城市的方位。
⑵ 全体学生能够理解词汇:map, right, country
部分学生能够运用词汇:country
⑶ 能感知单词重音和句子重读。

⑴ 全体学生能听懂:It’ s in east of China.
⑵ 全体学生能说:It’ s in east of China.
⑶ 全体学生能认读课文,阅读相关短文。
⑷ 全体学生能按要求完成语句书写。

3. Lead-in, then watch the video and learn to say the sentences in Activity 1.

T: Look! This is Hangzhou. And there is a famous lake in Hangzhou. What is it?
Ss: The West Lake.

(10分钟)
1. Show the situation of Activity 2, and learn to say the word ‘map’.
2. Watch the video and answer the question “Is the US big?”
3. Answer the question, then learn to say the word “right” and the word “country”.
T: That’s right. (Learn to say “right”.) The US is a big country. (Learn to say the word “country”.)
4. Read the dialogue by themselves and find out the answers to the three questions. Then talk about the answers in groups.
T: Do you want to know more about the US?
Ss: Yes!
T: OK! This time, please read the dialogue and find out the answers to the questions.
The three questions on PPT:
Where is New York?
Where is San Francisco?
Where is Boston?
After reading the questions, I’ll get them to read the dialogue by themselves, then talk about the answers in teams.
5. Say the answers to the questions.
The sentences to write down:
A: Where is San Francisco?
B: It’s in the west.
6. Practise.
After learning the main sentences, learn to use them with the help of PPT and the exercises in Activity 3:

7. Sum up the function and the grammar of the sentences.
8. Listen and say. Then practise reading by themselves.
